The Red Diamonds

Chapter Ten

Back

"¡Hola! Good morning everyone! It's 6 am..." began the morning annoucement. Kiibii threw a pillow at the speaker above her. As it landed on her feet, she kicked it away. She got up to wash her face and brush her teeth. She grabbed her schedule and headed for the cafeteria. After getting her breakfast, she sat in her normal seat - without Kirby being there. "Where's Kirby?" She asked. "I don't know. He wasn't in line for breakfast." Meta Knight replied. "Are you sure he got up?" Kiibii began to become worried. "Let's go see if he's in his room." They walked up to his room door and knocked. "Kirby? Kirby! Are you in there?" No response. "Alright, this is getting out of hand." Meta Knight pulled out a red card and swiped it. The door unlocked and they opened the door to find Kirby at the desk asleep. They saw a pencil in his hands and his cheek sitting on a mess of papers with writing on them. Kiibii went up to the sleeping warrior and shook him. "Kirby? Kirby! Wake up!" He awoke and rubbed his eyes. "Huh? Oh, Kiibii. What are you doing in here?"

"It's 6:15. Why are you asleep?" Meta Knight asked. Kirby, mindlessly, pushed the paper off of his desk. "I was up all night trying to write apology letters to you guys. Ugh, I'm so tired." They could tell. He started to have trouble keeping his eyes open. "I appreciate that you're doing this, but you need to think of your health. I trained you better than that." Meta Knight responded. "I'm glad that you're doing this, but he's right." Kiibii took the pencil from his hands and placed it in a drawer. He shuffled over to his bed and lied down. "I guess I'll get some sleep. Sorry if I caused you any trouble." They both left him to rest. Meanwhile, the other pallas were discussing about the relationship between Kirby and Kiibii. "Maybe she's just worried about him." Ruuby said. "Why? He indirectly yelled at her and made us train to go to some stupid planet called T'sus. Why do we need to go there anyway?" Winby took a bite out of his egg. "Maybe there's another diamond." Rorby suggested.

"Maybe, but why do we need to be trained? What's so special about these diamonds?" Winby picked at his food while he heard a response, "I don't know, but why are they red? They seem to have a power Kirby's interested in." "The question that's been bothering me is why is Kiibii obsessed over Kirby? When has he done something for her?" Garby asked. "Maybe she knows something about him that we don't. Back on Ces, she didn't get any respect. Now, this warrior has come into her life and changed everything. Now she has hope to finally have someone to protect her other than Ruuby." Rorby replied. "Why does she need protecting?" Winby mumbled. "Because she's weak. I may not have known what happened between you two, but something made her quiet and out of the way." The all fell silent as Kiibii and Meta Knight came back. "Kirby was in his room. He stayed up all night writing apology letters to each of us, so he's going to sleep in." Winby shrugged. "So? What difference does it make? We're still going to have to train."

Kiibii nodded. "Right, but he wrote a letter to you too." "And?" "You were the first." The second breakfast call was heard and everyone began to head for their chores. "I guess we better get to our jobs. Remember to meet me at three for training." Meta Knight said. They did their jobs and came back for lunch. Much to their surprise, Kirby woke up to eat with them. They, at first, were quiet but soon began talking and laughing. "So, I take it we're friends again?" He asked. "Not forgiven, but friends!" Garby raised his cup. They clacked their cups and took a drink from them. Except Kirby. He took a gulp. Wiping some sauce from his cheeks, Winby began speaking, "So, what's up with this planet T'sus? Why are we going there?" "We spotted the toads that att-" Winby's eyes widened. "Great! We can finally get revenge!" Kirby sighed. "Let me finish. Anyway, the reason why I'm training you for combat is so you can be ready to fight these monsters. We will have back-up (about 200 units), but you need to be at your best." They nodded with approval. "So, that's why you were so rough with us yesterday. You just wanted to have us ready." Rorby said. "That, and I had a headache." It wasn't long until they heard the second shift announcement. They got up and set their trays on the belt, walking to their daily chores.

The next several days were harsh and brutal for the pallas, but it felt easier with each day passing. They could run faster without breaking a sweat. They could lift a real sword with relative ease. They all had more stamina and energy than ever before. They could stand up to Kirby and win (sometimes). They even had more hope when they saw the planet T'sus. It was brown, grey, and blue all mixed in with an awful feel. That didn't even take a single light of hope. They were fierce. They were brave. They were ready. 250 soldiers inspected their swords and daggers, making sure they were sharp and lethal. The pallas were doing the same. Kirby saw the ship move closer to the horrid planet every second. He heard the annoucement that would begin everything. "All able soldiers, please report to the main hanger. We will be arriving on planet T'sus soon. I repeat, we will be arriving on planet T'sus soon." Within several minutes, the lifts started to be boarded. They all got on and prepared for a rough day as it began to descend.
