The Red Diamonds

Chapter Fifteen

"Wake up. It's time for breakfast." Kirby felt himself gently shaken by Ton. The rest were waking up and getting out of bed. As he walked over to the table, he saw bowls of oatmeal and glasses water. Normally, someone wouldn't like eating the awful stuff, but Kirby just ate it as if he had no taste buds. The others didn't seem to mind, but still didn't like it as much. "Sorry that it's not flavored. I'm running a little low on money." Ton said. "It's okay. After I eat, I'm going to contact Meta Knight. I forgot to yesterday." Kirby replied. As soon as he drank all of his water and walked over to his backpack. There he grabbed a radio. "Meta Knight. Meta Knight, this is Kirby. Do you copy?" After a brief moment of static, he heard a response, "Kirby! Are you there? I didn't hear a response from you yesterday. What happened?" "Sorry, I forgot. I'm in the basement of a friendly. He harbors pallas and then has his dad send them over to another planet." Kirby said. "That's great! What species is he?" Meta Knight asked.

"Poppy, but like I said before he's friendly." "That's different. Oh well, as long as you two are safe. How many other pallas are there, if any?" Kirby replied with a, "Three. Two female, one male. They're not too old either. They're actually young adults." He heard a sigh. "Dang...are they well?" "Yes, they are. Ton, the poppy, feeds them quite well, however he just stated he's running a little low on money." Kirby said. "I was also thinking on starting a secret program, if that's okay with you." Meta Knight just laughed. "You always were the soft one, weren't you? Not now, but after we kill Ing. That's a maybe. Out." He turned the radio off and put in back in his backpack. He sat down with the others, who were just finishing their breakfast. "So, I guess we won't be saved, after all." Zir said. "Yes, you will. Do not give up hope! We have transporters aboard our ship. What we could do is send you supplies when needed, first installing a transporter down here. Ton could alert us when he starts to run low on supplies and we could then send him some supplies of his choosing.

"It's not too expensive and Meta Knight will agree. Even we have more than enough supplies and money to help you guys out. Ton, can you keep them here for a little while longer? You will get more supplies, that I promise." Ton nodded his head. "Yes, I can. My dad can give me some money when he comes back this week. He works as an explorer in the E.O.G.S. and he gets paid very well. You can send supplies if you want, however." Kirby began speaking again, "I think it's best if we send you supplies. We don't want to get your father in trouble. What you're doing could get you killed, especially when this planet is not part of the Intergalactic Republic. Once we free Ces and destroy Ing, yadda-yadda-yadda you know the drill." After a short, random conversation, Ton went upstairs and it fell quite again. After an hour of playing soccer (they found a very old ball), the pallas relaxed for a while. They began taking turns telling stories that never happened and they made up on the spot.

Ton came back down a while later and beckoned Kirby upstairs. He followed the poppy and saw that his house was actually smaller than the basement. It contained a bed with a stove and icebox behind it. The house also had a desk. "Well, this is it. Not much, but it's home. Anyway, I need to discuss that race with you. How are you going to win it?" Ton wasn't sure if Kirby could handle this, but he apparently didn't know who this captain was. "Pfft, you may think that us pallas are too weak to defend ourselves, but I'm a captain. I can ride on these warpstars with ease. I rode on one before. It was before I decided to join Meta Knight's crew. I was captured by a vicious Waddle Doo by the name of Soqnal. He forced me into these air rides, but Meta Knight decided to save me for a small payment: life aboard the Halberd. He stated his payments were usually a lot worse. You need not worry about me losing." So for the next few days, they went over on he would be treated before the Rins.

Finally, it was Friday. Ton had bought five leashes, just to fake the slavery. They left at six a.m. and headed for the stadium. Ton had the leashes a little loose, because he didn't want to hurt the pallas. They didn't mind though. Once they arrived, two Rins had them halt. They were huge; as in cat-verses-mouse huge. They looked really strong too. They looked like a cross between a gorilla and a cat. Creepy. Kirby thought. "Oi! We're ere fer da races! Let us pass, yoo stoopid Rins!" Ton shouted. "Not with that attitude, young man." One of the Rins said. "Look, we're just ere fer the race. Pahlease just let us pass." Ton said. "Fine. Just write your name and the name of the racer. Make sure he or she can race a sand warpstar." Kirby ran up to Ton and started hugging his leg. "Please, don't let me race! I'll promise I'll be better from now on! Please, master!" Ton kicked him off, making sure he didn't kick him too hard. "Shaddup, you-" and he began cursing. "Watch your language, young man. Move along." A Rim said.

They started walking into the stadium. Once they were out of sight, Ton said, "Nice acting, Kirby! I would've never said those words. I sure hope God will forgive me." Kirby chuckled, rubbing his cheek. "I'm sure He'll forgive you for kicking me in the cheek." "Oh, I'm sorry. You okay?" Ton asked, but Kirby just shrugged. "Okay enough to race. Now, where do I get ready?" Ton shrugged. "I don't know. Suppose we ask the other trainers? There's one now!" He pointed to a poppy with a cage. Inside the cage, was a brown palla. "Oi! You dere! Where da I git ready fer the races?" Ton asked, putting on his fake accent. "'Own stairs. Go dat way!" The trainer responded, pointing behind him. There lied a stairwell. "Tanks! Good luck!" They walked downstairs and soon found themselves in a room full of other trainers, examining their pallas. Most of them looked as if they were training for years, but only Kirby knew they were only novice racers. "Pfft. This should be easy." Kirby scoffed.
