The Red Diamonds

Chapter Seven

Kirby was pushed into a small room with Kiibii hot on their heels. The nurse kept the door open for her, "Don't get too close to him, please. The doctor will be here shortly." She left the room and they both said nothing. Minutes later, a female cappy came in. She wore a white coat and a stethoscope around her neck. "So when is the doctor coming, nurse?" Kirby asked. "I am the doctor." She replied, putting on a pair of gloves. "Oh. I knew that." Kirby sat up and waited for the doctor. "My name is Addel. Now, what seems to be the problem, Kirby?" She looked at him and listened intently to his reply, "Well, I feel hot, I feel queasy, and my cheeks started to hurt." Addel walked up to him, "Tell me if this hurts." She began rubbing his cheeks and Kirby yelped. She walked up to a computer a started typing away. It wasn't long until she turned back around, "I think you may have CID." Kirby panicked. "CID?! Oh no!-what's CID?" "Cheek Inflammatory Disease." She answered. "Oh. What does it do?" She walked up to the computer and pressed a button.

A document was printed and she grabbed it. "Let's see," Addel began, "Well, your cheeks choose your skin color while you're still in your mother. Depending on your gender and genes it will decide whether you will be blue, green, red, purple, ect. They also begin your reproductive system-" "Lalalalalalalalala!" Kirby had put his hands by his sides where his ears were. "I'm not listening! Lalala-ow!" Kiibii slapped him on the back of the head. "I'm just doing my job," Addel shrugged. "I tell you what you have and I tell you what it'll do." Kirby sighed. "But I didn't need to know that! I know at some point it will happen, but still." The doctor rolled her eyes, "Calm down. CID will possibly give you cancer if not treated. Also, since they control your you-know-what, it could damage it. I'll stop talking about that for now. In the meantime, I'm going to need you to sleep in the infirmary for a while. I'll need you to take medicine under close moderation as well."

Kirby looked worried. "For how long?" Addel shrugged. "Two days at most. It won't be long. Lie down, please. Kiibii, can you open the door for me?" Kiibii jumped down from the chair and opened the door for her. She pushed the stretcher down a long hallway and turned right with Kiibii walking by her. There was a small room full of beds, with one already taken. Kirby saw a mechanic with a leg covered in blood. Nurses were cleaning his cuts and bandaging the wounded leg. Addel picked him up and put him on a bed. "I'll be right back. I'm going to get a needle and some medicine." As she walked out of the room, they both heard the mechanic groan in pain. "Now I don't feel comfortable." Kirby whispered to Kiibii. "It'll be alright. I do wonder what happened to him. Look at all that blood. It's so sad." It was indeed sad. The mechanic's leg was torn to ribbons and it looked awful. Kirby couldn't stand wondering, "What happened to him?" One of the nurses turned around with gloves covered in blood, "He got his leg jammed in the shredder. He was trying to take out the trash when it happened."

She went back to work. "I hope he'll be alright." He said. "Me too." Addel came back a short while after. She had a needle and a small capsule of clear liquid. She started to look around Kirby's right arm. "What are you looking for?" Kiibii asked. "A vein." She saw a blue line nearest to his shoulder. She grabbed the needle and pumped the medicine in the needle. Kirby took in a deep breath and prepared for the pain. Wimp. Addel thought, chuckling. She grabbed his arm with one hand and searched for that vein again. She saw it and put the needle up to his arm. The needle punctured his skin and she inserted the medicine. Kirby didn't know what was happening since his eyes were shut closed, but he was too frightened to look. Kiibii, on the other hand, was fascinated by this. Addel took the needle out and dabbed the small hole with hydrogen peroxide using a cotton ball, since blood had started to come out. She put a bandage on the puncture and shook Kirby.

"It's done. You can quit cowering like a baby." He scoffed. "I wasn't cowering, I just don't like this kind of stuff." She threw the needle in a bin above the bed. "A.K.A cowering. I'll need to attend to this fellow here." She walked away and started talking to the nurses. "Huh, what does she know?" Kirby scoffed. "A lot more than you. Just calm down. She was just joking." He sighed. "I know." She came back a short while after and tapped Kiibii, "I'll need you to leave. He could start coughing and I don't want you getting sick." Kiibii agreed, but wanted to know something first, "Won't you get sick?" Addel chuckled. "No, only pallas can get this disease. You don't see me with colored cheeks." "No." She replied, smiling. She walked out of the room and Addel pressed a button. A short while after, a male nurse came in. "Attend to him. He has CID so make sure he doesn't fall asleep yet." She walked away and the nurse sat on the bed with a clipboard in his hands. "My name is Kelys and I'll be your nurse."

Kirby felt that it was odd that a guy was a nurse, but said nothing. He began to feel drowsy, but tried not to fall asleep. He heard what Addel said to Kelys. About an hour later, the nurse began to write something on the clipboard. "Are you getting drowsy?" Kirby nodded. "Yeah, but I'm trying not to go to sleep. I heard what she said." Kelys nodded. "Good. Tell me if you start to feel hungry." He didn't feel hungry at all, just tired for no reason. "Is the medicine doing this?" Kirby asked. "Doing what?" Kelys replied. "Making me tired." He nodded, "Yes, that's a small side effect. Just stay awake for...30 more minutes. Then the medicine should really kick in." 30 boring minutes passed and Kirby yawned. "Oops." Kelys chuckled. "Don't worry. You can go to sleep now." Kirby happily closed his eyes, hearing the sound of pen meeting paper. Suddenly, silence was heard. He felt as if he was floating in space. Four red lights sparkled out of no where. Then those lights turned into four red diamonds.

Kirby tried to reach for those diamonds, but started to fall. After a while of falling, he saw grass below him. He was going to die! With a sudden force, he hit the ground and found that he was in a bed. He was in a dark room. He looked to his left and saw the mechanic asleep. He was back in the infirmary. Kirby sighed and lied back down. He didn't know what that dream meant, but he knew something bad would happen if you got those four diamonds. Something was telling him something and he wanted to know what.
